Today is about making Glass Jewelry made with my artistic weaving techniques.

Making glass jewelry with lampwork beads creates the ultimate in exclusive, high end jewelry. It will appeal to discriminating customers who are looking for fine art in jewelry.

Deena asked, in the comments, if I could demo how to use wire to make a pendant with flowers and leaves.

I used lampwork flowers and leaves from my Tutorial 103, to inspire those of you who have purchased the tutorial to light up and get torching!

If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section. :)

Doing this video got me thinking about why I love this wire weaving jewelry technique so much…

1. It makes the most extraordinarily stunning, one of a kind jewelry!

2. Every piece will be unique, which is what I love!

3. Each piece challenges me to explore new territory of possibility in artistic expression.

4. I’m constantly blending other jewelry techniques with my weaving.

5. Others appreciate and value this exceptional jewelry as wearable art.

 My Glass Jewelry Roots…

I’ve never wanted to wear mass produced jewelry, even if I could buy it at Neiman Marcus.

When I wear jewelry that is one of a kind, I feel that it is expressing who I am…what makes me special, unique and reflects my personal taste in art.

This desire probably started, when I was a child, with my grandmother making all my sisters and my clothes.

At the time, we felt resentful and unappreciative, not being able to wear store bought clothes.

I took for granted that any type of dress I wanted, I could just describe to my grandmother, Meme, and she would whip it out by cutting a pattern out of newspaper.

Today, we would call that designer clothes and pay a mint for it.

I can trace this seemingly childhood disadvantage to my acquiring a desire for reflecting my personal taste in all areas of my life and my art career.

Making glass jewelry that is fine art is a natural extension of my upbringing. I also cherish and value the luxury of  any handmade, quality crafted art form.

This beauty is SOLD. It was about 3″ x 2″.

But today, with so many people making glass jewelry, it’s imperative to stand out from the crowd.

Having the ability to incorporate artisan crafted lampwork beads, while making glass jewelry, elevates the jewelry into the fine art arena. This arena is more exclusive, with less competition from most of the other jewelry makers.

 Oops… A few things I forgot to mention…

1. Length of wire I started with was about 12 inches but how much you use will depend on how intricate your design becomes.

2. The wire is copper, coated with a permanent baked on paint. I prefer to use sterling silver, specifically Argentium, with does not tarnish.

3. Be careful not to twist your wires too tight or they will break.

4. If you want to make your own flowers & leaves…buy Tutorial 103!
